The faculty existed since the very inception of the university in 1953 till 1985 when few department from this faculty grouped into an another faculty. The faculty was headed by several internationally famous scholars such as Dr. Muhammad Shahidullah, a linguist. In addition to its regular undergraduate, graduate, M.Phil. and Ph.D. programs there are several short certificate courses run by some departments. Currently it holds eleven departments. The faculty contributed valuable contribution in to the country's great war of independence.
Deans of Faculty of Arts
According to the Ordinance of 1953 of University of Rajshahi, Deans of Faculty of Arts are selected by Vice-Chancellor from the senior teachers. First two Deans are selected for 3 years each, but others are selected for one year each. Here the list of Deans:
