Commerce education at Rajshahi University  started in 1957 with the academic program  Masters 1st Part and 2nd Part (2 years program) taking only 7 students under the  Department of Economics of this University. Professor Dr. M. Moqbul Hossain was the only teacher to start the commerce education initially. In 1958, professor Asim Uddin Mondal joined the department as commerce teacher and the Commerce Department was commissioned. In 1972, the Faculty of Commerce was established to include Accounting and Management. Gradually departments like Finance & Banking and the Department of Marketing joined the faculty in 1981-82. Presently the faculty's name  is again changed to the Faculty of Business Studies.
