Faculty of science started operation in 1956-67 session as the 3rd faculty of University of Rajshahi. Initially, Mathematics and  Geography were under Faculty of Arts. After the creation of the new Faculty of Science these two departments were moved to that faculty. In 1985-86 the total departments of this faculty was thirteen. During that session, a new faculty 'Faculty of Life and Earth Science' was created from the existing Science Faculty. Currently the Science Faculty includes twelve departments
