Introduction:

The Institute of Business Administration (IBA) is one of the five Institutes of Rajshahi University. It started its journey as an institute in the year 2000. Academic activities of the institute began in 2002 with the inception of MBA (Evening) program with 40 students. At present the program has 110 students in 3 braches- 36 students in the first batch, 29 in second batch and 45 in third batch. Most of the students of this program are mid level and top-level executives in private sector and state owned organizations. They are proud members of the IBA of University of Rajshahi.

Location:

Institute of Business Administration is located at the 2nd floor of Rabindra Bhaban with separate Office Room, Class Rooms and a well decorated Computer Lab. for the students.

Aims and objectives:

Its aim is to provide and promote facilities for graduate and post graduate study and research in Business Administration. In addition to these, IBA of University of Rajshahi has been established to provide off-the-job training for business people, post graduate diploma program for gradates engaged in business. Executive Development Program (EDP) for top management and senior executives. Moreover the institute has objective of providing consulting services and assistances as required by the business community.

Management of the Institute:

The management of the institute is vested on a Board of Governors. Honorable Vice  Chancellor of the University is the Chairman of the Board and there will be 14 members as per the statue for the IBA (The Seventh Statue of the University) . Honorable Director of the Institute acts as member-secretary of the Board of governors.

Present Facilities and Future Plans:

As a very new institute IBA is still in development stage. Nevertheless, IBA has ensured some basic facilities for students so far. It has well furnished and equipped classrooms, a computer lab and a library. IBA is going to provide internet facility to the students. Library of the institute will be one of the richest libraries in the campus very soon. At present IBA of Rajshahi University is offering MBA (evening) program only. IBA plans to introduce BBA program and regular MBA program as soon as possible.

Internship:

The internship is a part of the MBA degree requirement. A student must pass the comprehensive examination before placement in the internship program. The internship constitutes a practicum for a student and is a preparatory step towards placement. The primary goal of internship is to provide an on-the-job exposure to the student and an opportunity for translation of theoretical conceptions into real life situation. Students are placed in enterprises in the public and private sectors, research institutions as well as development projects. The program covers a semester equivalent of 16 weeks involving 12 weeks of organizational attachment and 4 weeks of report finalization. The internship program for a student is usually organized to match the area of concentration and supervised by a faculty member.

In all cases, a student is required to prepare an internship report within the time specified. The internship report of a student will be graded as per normal grading system of IBA. The passing grade in the internship is ‘C’. Failure to obtain a passing grade will call for a retake of internship program. Such retake will be allowed only once. The grade earned on the internship report will be reported in the grade sheet of the student.
