Admission

The objective of the admission policy is to select students on a competitive basis for the MBA program. A student is selected for admission on the basis of past academic records, performance in admission test and interview.


Requirements

A bachelor degree or its equivalent in any field including engineering, agriculture or medicine is the minimum educational requirement. Minimum qualifying points for being eligible to apply is 6 (six) calculated on the following basis with no more than one third division in any public examinations.

Candidates who have passed at least 5 papers in GCE ‘O’ level and 2 papers of ‘A’ level may also apply. For all other foreign certificates, equivalence will be determined by the Institute.

Points for ‘O’ level and ‘A’ level are calculated on a 4 point scale (A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1) and considered as follows:

Selection

The selection of students for the program is accomplished in two stages:

(i). Candidates appear at the written admission test of IBA on mathematics, English and aptitude. Candidates who have a score of 400 or more in GMAT with minimum 25 percentile in verbal and 40 percentile in quantitative are not required to take the written test. Candidates with requisite GMAT scores should apply for interview in prescribed form.

2. Successful candidates of stage (i) appear at an interview.

The final selection of candidate is made on the basis of past academic records and performance in written test and interview.

 

Application procedure

A candidate should apply for written admission test in the prescribed form available along with prospectus and sample test from Agrani Bank, Rajshahi University Branch/ MBA program Office/ any other commercial bank at Rajshahi (to be decided by the Board of Governors) on payment of fees of Tk. 300/- only. These can be obtained by mail from MBA program Office by sending (i) a bank draft for Tk. 300/- drawn in favour of MBA PROGRAM. IBA and (ii) a 10² x 8² size self addressed envelope with postage stamp of Tk. 20/-. The filled-in application form should be submitted to MBA Program Office within dates notified in the press.

Registration

Applicants finally accepted for the program should obtain the prescribed form of application for admission to the University from the MBA Program Office of the Institute and submit it to the same office, duly filled in along with 4 passport size photographs, and one stamp size photograph and other requisite documents within the scheduled time. Candidates who have completed the above formalities must then pay the requisite fees. Enrolment in the Institute and admittance into classes are conditional upon completion of all admission formalities including payment of fees.


Fees

Part time M B A Students:

The following tuition fees are payable at the time of admission to the university:

In addition, the students are to bear the cost of reading materials to be supplied by the Institute. Further to the payment of above fees to the University, the students of the MBA program are required to deposit as security a sum of Tk. 200/- (Two hundred) only per book given on loan from the IBA library for a semester. The amount is refundable on return of all books in good condition after the student completes or withdraws from the program. There is a user fee of Tk. 20/- per book per semester. There is also a user fee of Tk. 100/= for the use of the facilities at the IBA Computer Centre. All fees and charges are subject to revision. Guarantee by guardians may also be sought for return of books.

Persons who have completed the above mentioned requirements for admission to the university will be enrolled in classes of the Institute. No student shall be eligible for enrolment in the Institute or be permitted to attend any class unless the person has completed the above admission procedure and has paid all fees.Part time M B A student will not be treated as regular student.

Foreign Students

Foreign Students

Students with foreign nationality can apply for admission provided the individual fulfills the admission requirement by taking the IBA Admission Test or scoring 400 or more in GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) with at least a 25 percentile score in the verbal section. Knowledge of the English language is essential. An amount US$1500 should cover tuition and living cost for one academic year. The Institute processes the admission queries of the foreign students throughout the year.


Degree Requirements

The MBA degree requirements are:

(a)    Completion of 20 courses (60 credit hours),

(b)   Completion of Internship Program with a minimum grade of ‘C’,

(c)    Passing of the Comprehensive Examination,

(d)   Passing of all courses individually and maintaining a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.50.

 

Each student is required to attend all classes held during each semester. Only three absences in one semester in each course may be excused. Unexcused absences may result in reducing the course grade of the student or in dismissal of the student from the program.

The academic year is divided into 2 semesters of 16 weeks each. During a semester each course will meet 2.5 hours a week, that is twice a week for 75 minutes each. The minimum number of class hours’ for each course in a semester will be approximately 40. Additional sessions in the form of workshop for a course may be scheduled by the concerned teacher.

For full time day section students the number of courses taken during each semester is 4, 5 or 6. In a maximum of 5 semesters the day-students are to complete 20 courses. In the part-time or evening section the minimum number of courses taken in a semester is 2. However, a student may take more than 2 courses if desired and available. Students of both groups undergo the internship program for 16 weeks.

 

Methods of Instruction

The lecture method of teaching is followed in the Institute. It is supplemented by project work, case presentation, group discussions, seminars, business games, audiovisual aids and plant visits. A heavy reliance is placed on the project work, case method of instruction and other modern techniques that simulate situations in which decisions have to be made. Cases used in the courses relate to actual business problems including those developed by the Institute’s faculty relating to Bangladeshi business.

Students are supplied with books and materials, which they are required to read and understand. To develop sound study habits, arrangements are made for supervised reading in the library of the Institute. Students are required to prepare daily work assignments, participate in class discussions and sit for periodical quizzes and tests.

Arrangements are also made to hold lectures by prominent business executives on subjects of current business interest. The medium of instruction is English.
