The proctorial body looks after the law and order situations inside the university campus. It comprises of a proctor as a team leader with a number of assistant-proctors, and all of them are university teachers. Students facing any sort of security problem can seek help from the proctorial body. The body is empowered to charge a limited pecuniary compensation to students violating peace and tranquility of the campus. Supervising on the safety and security of the students living outside of the campus is also the responsibility of the proctorial body.
The ‘discipline board’ of the university consists of the vice-chancellor, pro-vice-chancellor, provosts, proctor, deans and two members of the syndicate. The vice-chancellor is the chairman, and the proctor acts as the secretary of the board. With the approval of the ‘discipline board’, the vice-chancellor can impose pecuniary penalty, give transfer-certificate or rusticate any student who has been provenly violated the law and order of the university.
The provost is the administrative head of a residential hall. A number of house-tutors help him in performing the responsibility. For violating rules and disciplines, the provost can charge pecuniary penalty to any student on small causes, but for severe improper misconduct, the provost can expel any student from the hall. If the vice-chancellor thinks it fit, he can bring it to the notice of the ‘discipline board’ and advice for expelling the student from the university.
If any student of one hall is found guilty of violating another residential hall’s law and order, the provost of the student’s own hall will be entitled to take action against him/her. If the aggrieved hall’s provost is not satisfied with the measure undertaken, he may bring it to the notice of the vice-chancellor.
For violating rules and etiquette of any class, tutorial or practical session, any class teacher can cancel three day’s attendance of a student for theoretical class, and one day attendance in cases of other classes, or alternatively, he can charge pecuniary penalty against the student. In all cases, the class teacher will inform the incident to the respective student’s hall-provost through the departmental chairman. In severe incidents, he can inform the vice-chancellor for further range of punishments.
