Department of Genetic Engineering & Biotechnology

Department of Genetics and Breeding is the oldest department, now under the Faculty of Agriculture. It came into being under the Faculty of Life and Earth Sciences on the 27th July, 1996 with our reverent teacher Professor O.I.Joarder as the first chairman. Under the curriculum of the Faculty of Agriculture, the B.Sc.Agri.(Honours) 1st batch with 25 students has been started their academic session 2000-2001 from November, 2000.

The filed of research in this department are Plant & Animal Breeding, Biometrical & Molecular Genetics, biotechnology & Tissue culture etc.

The Genetical Society of Bangladesh is housed in the department and Bangladesh Journal of Genetics & Biotechnology as an official organ of this society is being published biannually.
